Program Note: “Liveness is a technologically mediated relationship among human beings” (Philip Auslander, 2012, p 5). Swipe invites you to reflect on the “Liveness” of our technology-driven era and questions the changes in human interactions that it provokes. The digital world has invaded and facilitated our lives, becoming essential in our daily routines. However, who is benefiting from our constant swipes and online availability? What do we lose by making everything easier or automatic? Do our phones, laptops, and tablets make us whole or multiply our identities? Why do we perform our online habits? Does digital interaction influence how we perceive and relate to each other? The performers on stage embody the tensions between virtual and real, public and private, true and imagined, and necessity and choice to explore these questions and encourage you to swipe through your thoughts and put your “Liveness” into perspective.
